Today, in the evening of October 29th, a military convoy is moving in the direction of the CODEDI training center, ex finca alemania, in the Southern Sierra Zapoteca of Oaxaca. The military provocation is taking place at the same time hundreds of people who form part of the Committee for the Defense of Indigenous Rights (CODEDI) are carrying out a mobilization in front of the airport in Huatulco, Oaxaca. They are demanding justice for the five community activists assassinated thus far this year and for the death of 22-year-old Mardelia Rocibel Cervantes, who died as a result of medical negligence in the hospital of Huatulco.
It is important to mention that this past October 25th, 44-year-old Noel Castillo Aguilar, was shot dead. He was a member of CODEDI organizing against business interests and organized crime in defense of the beach in his community.
The lack of detainees from the aforementioned killings and the military presence near the training center of the organization are an attempt at intimidation against the right of the people to protest. These actions make clear once again the complicity between the state apparatus and the hit-men of organized crime.
We ask all of the solidarity organizations to be attentive to whatever provocation and repression that might be carried out by the military and police forces.
