(Oaxaca, Mexico) Collective Statement of Solidarity with Nicaragua

(Editor’s note: This is a communique of various collectives from Oaxaca expressing their solidarity with the ongoing uprisings taking place in Nicaragua. The original in Spanish was published by the Independent media collective, Proyecto Ambulante, here.)

Let’s go toward life!

To the Spaces in Resistance
To the Student Collectives
To the National Indigenous Congress

Break the media siege…Nicaragua is living through a critical and worrying situation. The Sandanista National Liberation Front government, led by Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, have killed more than 200 (the majority students), detained around 500, and disappeared at least a dozen people.

After more than two months of revolt in Nicaragua, it is now more necessary than ever to break the media siege, do away with the discourse of, “…right wing intervention in the mobilizations” and extend our solidarity to those in the trenches at the universities and the people in struggle in general.

It is important to mention that in Nicaragua the universities have continued their strikes. This has lasted for more than a month. The struggle is now lead by students, while the movement has expanded more broadly into the popular sectors.

We appreciate the gestures of solidarity that the students in the trenches at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Nicaragua have given to Oaxaca and Ayotzinapa. It is now our turn to do the same.

We invite student collectives, spaces of resistance, the free media and the National Indigenous Congress to speak up and denounce the situation. Show your solidarity with the students, neighborhoods and people of Nicaragua that are now resisting on the barricades.

We demand respect for human rights!
Immediate end to the police, military and Sandanista mobs!
Solidarity and much force with the Nicaragua struggle!
Long live the students!
Long live the people in resistance!
