Oaxaca, OAX.
In response to the news of a visit from Enrique Peña Nieto to Oaxaca to inaugurate the XXIV Congress of Mexican Foreign Trade, Section 22 of the National Coordination of Education Workers (CNTE) calls on all of the teachers to be on maximum alert to protest his arrival.
Peña Nieto is not welcome to Oaxaca. Since the beginning of his clear inability to govern, the Oaxacan teachers have declared him someone not welcome to our communities. He is seen as the principal advocate of the despicable structural reforms that have resulted as more of a threat, than a benefit, to the people of Mexico.
As the teachers of Oaxaca, we consider that the arrival of Peña Nieto to the city of resistance—a national and international referent of social and popular struggle—only represents servility to the programs derived from the eleven structural reforms that are being imposed by international economic organizations.
Our country lives in a climate of economic and social crisis. It’s roots lie in the rise in taxation, the selling and exploitation of natural resources by international corporations, the increase in assassinations, femicides and disappearances, the incarceration of social activists and teachers that have opposed the education reform.
With this, Section 22 of the National Coordination of Education Workers (CNTE) declares the right to organize the 83,000 workers across the state against the ambition of Peña Nieto to come to Oaxaca. He is not welcome because the wave of measures he has implemented to harass and fire the teachers of the country by means of a punitive exam.
The structural reforms regarding energy, labor, economic competition, telecommunication and radio-diffusion, budget, finance, education, a new protection law, the penal system, the political-electoral and transparency laws, have lead the country to devastation, poverty, the exploitation of natural resources, corruption, marginalization and inequality amongst Mexicans.
We thus call on the people of Oaxaca, social, civil and non-governmental organizations, workers, students, employees and organized sectors, to join the generalized rejection of the arrival of Peña Nieto to the lands of Oaxaca.
As Section 22, we declare that in our political spaces, we will make the appropriate agreements to organize the political action with the objective of denying the arrival of this person to the city of resistance and popular struggle.
Justice for our fallen compañeros in Nochixtlán!
Total rejection of the neoliberal reforms!
Immediate liberty to the political prisoners and prisoners of conscious!
End to the terrorism of the state!
End to the criminalization of social protest!
