Early this morning, machinery from the company carrying out the construction of the gas pipeline of death (as the people of La Loma often call it) arrived to the territory of Loma De Bacum. The megaproject seeks to displace the population from their territory, with the support of the state government. The machinery was guarded by more than 20 state police patrol cars intending to continue the work of construction on the pipeline.
Although the people of Loma De Bacum won a stoppage to the works in Yaqui territory using legal channels, the government insists on working above the law to carry out the plunder that is damaging to the Yaqui people and in favor of the transnational corporation.
At the moment, the people are gathered in their traditional guard organizing the defense of their territory.
