Urgent Notice from the National Indigenous Congress (Tepoztlán, Morelos)

To the CIG, the National Indigenous Congress, the Sixth Commission of the EZLN, and to the National and International Sixth.

When we heard about the the expansion of the Pera-Cuautla highway, we said that more will be coming. Today we see that the war of extermination against our people is worsening. We have seen in recent months that bad governments have again set their sights on our ancestral lands and want to implement their death plans on our communal lands and territories. The bad government has snatched 18 hectares (44 acres) of communal lands and another 280 hectares (691 acres) could be lost to business and financial groups seeking to put to a golf course on this land. This would be death blow. In the 1990’s both lands in Tepoztlan were taken back when people fought against the golf course project which was sponsored by powerful financial groups. The real estate group, Quinta Piedra, was then property of Salinas de Gortari ’s brother-in-law, Jesús Occelli.

In the afternoon of September 24, there will be an attempt to take ”legal” possession of communal lands donated to Conalep for the benefit of our population through a false civil lawsuit. We are therefore calling on the people to stay alert. On Wednesday the uncertainty will continue as the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation will make a decision on the future of the 280 hectares belonging to the community. We call on all of you who are from struggles below to be attentive to what is happening in the territory of Tepoztlán and to support the decisions that our people have taken to defend their territories.

Never Again a Mexico Without Us.
