The Nahua community of Santa María Ostula has been informed of the recent death of compañera Guadalupe Campunur Tapia of the community of Cherán K’eri.

In light of this event, we express our sincere condolences and we will maintain attentive to the result of the investigations initiated to determine the causes that led to the death of the compañera, as well as to the necessary procedures so that justice is done and impunity is negated.

We trust the decisions taken by the Council of Elders and the General Assembly of the community, as well as their free determination and autonomy.

Compañera Guadalupe was at the 8th anniversary of the recuperation of our communal lands this past June 29th, 2017.  She assisted as part of the committee of Cherán K’eri that was present on this very important date for our struggle.

We recognize the trajectory of struggle of the compañera and her example of social commitment, making her loss a severe blow, not only for her community but for all of the Indigenous communities of Michoacán and the country.

Compañeras and compañeros of Cherán K’eri, receive a fraternal embrace of solidarity from the Nahua community of the Sierra-Costa of Michoacán, and know that we will remain attentive to the following steps so that justice be the cure for this pain.
