Mexico City, June 5th, 2018

In this second day of activities as part of the national teacher and popular strike, convoked by the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE), the Federal government and City government of Mexico City, once again showed their attitude of intolerance and insensitivity. Responding to our organization that peacefully organized actions to denounce and protest the policy of closed and deaf ears, to attend to the problematic caused by the imposition of the labor reform, wrongly named educational, the Federal and local governments responded using their police forces against us.

Since yesterday, June 4th, they have shown their repressive attitude, ordering the police to detain the motorized caravans of the CNTE, coming from several states of the Republic. Their intention is to prevent our civic and peaceful activities in defense of public education and labor rights, here in the residence of the Powers of the Union.

In the activities on this day, the Mexico City police repressed the teachers of the CNTE threatening our compañeros with the use of any and all force. They want to prevent us from protesting in front of the Mexican stock exchange, demonstrating that the government does not obey the interests of the working people, but of national and international financial capital.

For some months, we have solicited that the Federal government meet with our negotiating commission, to find a solution to the demands of the democratic teachers. We do not have a response or any explanation for why our proposals have not been addressed, but we have received political threats and harassment.

We call on society in general to be alert to the development of our activities and to not allow the use of violence to repress social protest. We call on the Peña Nieto government to respond to the proposals before the end of his period.

To the organizations in defense of human rights, we ask that you seek an open dialogue on part of the government authorities and be attentive to the likely repressive acts against our movement.

We call on the democratic organizations to accompany this struggle—a struggle for the people and by the working people—because it is in defense of the right to public education and labor rights achieved by the working people.

United and organized, we will overcome!
