To the national and international public opinion

I communicate to our people of the Mapuche Nation, to all of the Lof Mapu, to the different Mapuche and non-Mapuche organizations, to the people in general:

It has been almost a month since I put on hold my hunger strike. Driven by the orientation of the Machi that have treated my state of health, the Lonko of different Lof Mapu that have accompanied me, and the petition of the government assuring me that putting off the hunger strike would allow a dialogue about my change of Rewe, I put on pause my hunger strike. I did this knowing the deceptive way the state has always treated the people of the Mapuche Nation. Today, I state that there has not been any concrete action on part of the government for fulfill their word. A few hours ago, after the request of the exit to my Rewe, the Regional Director of Gendarmerie of Temuco notified me that the exit to my ceremonial site had not been authorized. Thus, today, Thursday May 31st, I’m restarting an indefinite liquid hunger strike, with the following request: Kiñe: For the respect and rights of all of the Mapuche spiritual authority, I demand my right to health. There is a medical suggestion coming from the Intercultural hospital of Nueva Imperial saying that as part of my healing process, my exit to me Rewe should be permitted for 48 hours. Epu: For the respect and rights of all of those that pertain to Indigenous communities, I demand the freedom to exercise our spiritual and ceremonial beliefs inside (and outside) the prisons of the country. Küla: The right to inhabit modules exclusive to members of Indigenous communities in the prisons of the county, according to our lives and customs.

Meli: I demand the application of the Convention 169 of the International Labor Organization regarding Indigenous peoples. Kechu: The restitution of our lands, territory and compensation for the historic and contemporary damages caused by painful acts against humanity on part of the Chilean State. Kayu: The absolution of all of our lamngen and peñi politically and judicially persecuted for the Mapuche cause.

Having no alternative and having exhausted all options with the government, the only pathway forward is to struggle assuming all consequences. I entrust our Karül Wenu Mapu Chew, inside the natural order, in the hands and the consciousness of all of the Mapuche and Indigenous peoples. Furthermore, in the hands of the non-Mapuche that support the cause doing their part in the just demands and cause of the Mapuche.

Affectionally,
Machi Celestino Córdova
